About Saint John

Saint John was born in 1992 in the Wichita Kansas. As far back as he can remember and even further he has been creating art. He would sit at the playskool art desk his parents bought him for hours on end even as a child. by 1997 his family moved to a humble country side home on the outskirts of the city. without a bustling town around him john began to flourish as an artist in middle school where teachers began urging him and his schoolmates to pick their career so they could pick classes for high school to start pursuing their future careers. Saint John at 13 with all the pressure presented by teachers knew what he wanted to do, art. more specifically tattooing.

Unfortunately not everyone supported his dream, he remembers an incident with a teacher where she expressed her negative concerns with tattoo as a career path on the first day of his freshman year, after back and forth Saint John spent the remainder of the hour in the hall as punishment. While in high school he competed in various art competitions and attended a combined 20 semesters of art classes covering photography, airbrush, drawing and painting. while attending high school he also enjoyed skateboarding, metal and punk shows, graffiti and various underground subcultures that formed a lot of his artwork inspiration.

Once he was able to drive Saint John spent as much time as he could pestering tattoo shops and seeking out an apprenticeship while others had fun and partied their way though high school. when it came time for college even though he had 2 opportunities for full ride art scholarships Saint John took his first leap of faith in favor of tattooing and instead started apprenticing. in the following years Saint John would go on to work a year in New Orleans as a tattoo artist before settling into the suburb of Olathe just outside of Kansas City.

Saint John looks to improve all of his skills constantly to produce a wide range of work inside of tattooing from traditional Americana and Japanese work to illustrative, new school, neotraditional and realism styles. He finds his most peace in creating and tries his best to spend as much time working on art in the shop and out of the shop as possible. When not tattooing Saint John takes on many commissions for digital illustrations, traditional paintings and concepting as well as maintaining personal projects in all realms of art.
